Y.S. Rana, Mohali,- Feb 26 : Hycron Electronics, a company at Baddi in district Solan of Himachal Pradesh has won the Winsome Quality Pathfinder Award in the small business segment. The 7th North-West Qualtech zwards, the most prestigious awards for quality, were presented in a day-long glittering convention held here on Saturday.
Over 200 delegates from more than 60 companies have participated in the annual quality convention at PTU’s Gian Jyoti School of TQM and Entrepreneurship, Mohali.
While addressing the galaxy of corporate leaders and quality professionals, Mr K.C. Mehra, Chairman, National Board for Quality Promotion, Quality Council of India (QCI), said that “quality is not expensive, it is priceless.” Commending the role of Gian Jyoti School of TQM and Entrepreneurship for spearheading the quality movement in the region, Mr Mehra announced setting up of Mohali Chapter of QCI in the school.
Quality, he reiterated, was a must for national well-being and QCI has the agenda to get people in the country appreciated the value of quality, which will be met through the QCI chapter.
Mr. Manish Trehan, CEO of the School informed that a large number of project entries were received from various companies from Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh, out of which 22 teams were short-listed for the final competition, after a detailed evaluation of their project papers, presented their projects before an eminent jury.
These 22 finalists had been able to achieve extraordinary results through structured quality improvement initiatives and had been able to achieve a total savings of Rs. 27.09 crores, he added. Mr. Trehan also announced the launch of Punjab Technical University’s 2-year Executive MBA programme, will be designed for working professionals, which will commence from July this year.
Chairman of the School’s Governing Council, Padmashri Chandra Mohan, expressed happiness at the increasing number of entries from far-away geographies, their variety and depth, and enthusiasm of the participating teams this year, which is a clear reflection of the awakening of this region to quality.
Addressing the Convention earlier, Mr. R.P. Sehgal, Director Works, SML Isuzu Limited, said that any company to stay competitive in the globalised world must enforce a culture of quality, which is again an issue of people’s mindset working in an organization who must involve themselves wholeheartedly to make quality into a mass movement.

Other winners of awards were Philips Electronics (I) Limited won the Vardhman Quality Navigator awardfor large business segment, while Trident Quality Pioneer award for medium business was bagged by Winsom Textile Industries, Mohali.
Tata Teleservices Limited, Mohali, walked away with this year, the Educomp Quality Innovator Award for the service sector companies.li.
