Chandigarh March 30, 2008:- It was a day of Nishchay Rawal of Total Tennis Academy, and a class 8th student of S. Annes School Sector 32, as he won two titles at ongoing 4th Late Shri L.D.Kapoor Memorial Total Tennis Championship being played at YMCA sector 11 Chandigarh premises.
In the first final which was played in the morning session Top seed in the boys under 14 age category Nishchay beat Sachin Kumar in straight sets with ease at 6-0, 6-4 to wrapped up the first title of the day in his favour. And then in the evening session Nishchay was ruthless against his opponent Taranbir Singh in boys under 16 final, as Nishchay almost blanked his opponent by winning the title conceding just one game by winning the match 6-0, 6-1.
In the boys under 12 age category top seed Sachin Kumar had to fight for over one and half hour for winning the title against the second seed Dheeranush Bhatti. In the first set it was Sachin all the way as he won the first set without conceding a game at 6-0. But in the second set Dheeranush fought back well to win the second set fighting hard in the tie breaker at 7-6(8-6). But in third and the final set Sachin played power packed game to beat him easily at 6-1. The final score was read in the favour of the top seed Sachin Kumar 6-0, 6-7(6-8), 6-1.
In the girls under 12 age category top seed Hasan Abdaal of Patiala had sweat hard for almost two and half hour to beat the second seed Vibhuti Khullar of CLTA in very tough fought three setter final. The first set went to the second seed Vibhuti with ease at 6-2, but then Hasan fought back well to win the next two sets 6-3, 6-4 to wrapped up the title in her favour.
In the girls under 16 final Nikita Sharma of Lake Club Complex had to fight very hard to beat her practice partner and the second seed Ramneek Kaur in three very tough fought sets. Nikita win the title by winning 6-4, 2-6, 6-4.
Nihit Rawal of boys under age category was awarded the Most Promising Player of the Championship.
Mr. Arvind J. Noel, General Secretary, gave away the prizes to the winners.
