CHANDIGARH, MARCH 30 ( Balbir Singh)Sector 16 Cricket Stadium Academy upset Desh Prem Azad Cricket Academy by 59 runs in the Chandigarh Under-13 Inter-Academy Cricket Tournament being organized by the DPAC Academy at the St Stephen’s School ground in Sector 45 here today.
Batting first after winning the toss, Sector 16 Cricket Stadium Academy piled up 177 for 5 in allotted 30 overs. Their openers Kuljinder (75) and Nipun Bhargav (52) were involved in a fruitful 128 runs association for the first wicket. Kuljinder ‘s knock of 75 contained nine fours. Nipun scored 52 with the help of five boundaries. Dakash Sharma contributed 18 runs. DPAC Academy all-rounder Parnav Vashisht bagged two wickets for 35 runs. Hemant Sharma and Jovanpreet got one wicket each for 31 and 21 runs, respectively.
Required to score 178 for victory, DPAC Academy could muster only 118 for 7 in stipulated 30 overs. DPAC Academy suffered an early blow as their skipper Dakash Aggarwal (8) was run out due to misunderstanding. Dakash departed with side’s total of just nine.
Karan Aggarwal (25), Manjot (26) and Parnav Vashisht (30) tried their best but that was not enough to extricate themselves from the jaws of death. Rajit (3 for 19) and Kuljinder (2 for 18) bowled well to contain the DPAC Academy batsmen. Dakash Sharma and Parvan captured one wicket each for 30 and 18 runs, respectively.
DPAC Academy have completed their Pool A programme with one victory and one defeat. It was Sector 16 Cricket Stadium Academy’s first outing and their next match against Yadvindra Public School, Mohali on April 2 will decide the leaders. Two teams from Pool A and Pool B will qualify for semi-finals.
