DHUDIKE (MOGA), DEC 8 ; Australia defeated Spain by 43-34 in the Fifth Kabaddi World Cup 2014 in the jam- packed Multipurpose Stadium, here today. Australian maintained the lead since beginning and by half time their score was 20-18.
For Australia, raiders Inderjit scored 9, Navpreet scored 10 and Taranpreet scored 10 points and stoppers Avtar Singh and Harwinder Singh scored two points each. Spanish raiders Juan Espino secured 12 points, Santiago got 7 and Samuel earned 8 points while stopper Christian scored two points.
INDIAN WOMEN OUTSCORE USA 56-15
In the women’s section, hosts India thrashed United States of America by a big margin of 56-15. By Half time, the Indian team were leading by 27-06. Indian raiders Priyanka, Sukhwinder Kaur, Ram Bateri and Sukhjinder Kaur scored seven points each while stoppers Anu Rani, Sarabjit and Jasvir scored 5, 4 and 3 points, respectively. For USA team, raiders Kate and Guramrit Kaur Khalsa scored four points each.
IRAN PIP USA BY 40-39
Iran just managed to get the better of United States of American by a narrow margin of one points (40-39) in another match fixture. The match which saw several highs and lows, ended with a nail-biting finish. The Iran team had defeated USA two years ago as well.
By half time, the Iran were leading by 24-19 but in the second half, USA covered the lead and at several times in the match, the scores were tied. But it were the Iran who emerged victorious.
Iran raiders Mohd Faraz and Atazdesh scored seven points each while stoppers Mojtada and Amir won three points each.From USA team, raiders Inderdeep Singh and Avtar Singh scored 10 points each and Baljit Singh scored 8 while stoppers Navpreet Johal and Donte scored 4 and 3 points respectively.
Punjab Health System Corporation chairman Barjinder Singh “Makhan” Brar was the chief guest for the third match of the day.
Addressing the gathering, Punjab Agriculture Minister Tota Singh said that it is due to the efforts of SAD-BJP government that the kabaddi sport is making its presence felt at the international scene. He also thanked CM Mr Parkash Singh Badal and Deputy CM Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal for bringing this tiny hamlet of Dhudike on international sports scene.
