CHANDIGARH, SEPT 29 :India finished fourth as they lost to Russia 1-2 in the Junior Davis Cup finals tie. According to a communication received from Kawaljeet Singh, captain of the Jjnior Davis Cup Indian team, from San Luis Potosi (Mexico) the Indian boys won the first set in deciding doubles. With an early break of Saurabh Singh’s serve in the third set gave Russians a 2-0 lead, though the Indian pair broke Russians in the seventh game and were going on serve when in the 12 game serving at 5-6 Yuki, our strong player lost his serve, which costed India the second set.
In the third set too Yuki lost his serve in the second game, giving Russians a 2-0 lead but quickly the Indian pair broke the Russians in the third game. However, it was not the day for Yuki whose serve was again broken in the sixth game giving Russiansa 4-2 lead. The Russians wrapped the set and match winning 6-3.
Both Indian players were trying hard to get back in the game but it was the first time since the qualifying rounds the Indian pair could not play their best doubles, which they are good at and were confident to win the match once it was in doubles.
"Well, we got the fourth place and it was close to be in the finals and again to get the third position. The competition is very tough and Saurabh has learned a lot that how much he has to improve and same is for Abhishek, whose style of play is more suitable on clay. He has to make some important adjustments to play with the elite players," commented Kawaljeet Singh..
