17 Dec :Floodlights will not be put to use even in case of bad light during the second India-England Test starting on 19th December at the PCA stadium in Mohali, Punjab Cricket Association Secretary MP Pandove said on Wednesday.
"We sent a proposal to ECB and BCCI for the use of floodlights in case of bad light. But both the teams have agreed to natural playing conditions," Pandove, who is also BCCI treasurer, told a news agency.
"Besides, since it being winter it was also suggested that the match be permitted to start at least 30-minute ahead of schedule time. However, both the teams agreed upon playing under natural conditions," Pandove said.
According to the Met office in Mohali there is possibility of rain or thunder showers on 19th and 20 December besides overcast conditions during the early part of next week.
Fog or mist during the later part of a day can also make difficult for the batsman to read the ball properly.Another factor during the five-day match is that on 22nd December is shortest day of the year and it will be hard for the bowling side to complete its 90-over quota in a day.
All these factors could have been negated had the permission to use floodlights was given to the authorities.England had lost to India via Duckworth/Lewis method in the third match of the curtailed ODI series in Kanpur last month due to bad light despite the stadium having floodlights.
