Dr. Avnish Jolly, 9th December, 2008 : Entrepreneurship is the answer to meet the challenge of the current economic crisis, said Mr. Suren G. Dutia, the global Chief Executive Officer of the world’s largest not-for-profit organization, The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE) which is headquartered in Silicon Valley, USA.
Mr. Dutia who has been in corporate management since 1981 having headed various companies also served in the US Department of Education in the Carter’s Administration, strongly feels that Panjabi’s who have the entrepreneurial spirit have done wonders abroad, can replicate the success in India too.Mr. Dutia who was visiting the Chandigarh Chapter of TiE to guide for further strengthening its activities in the region, said that very soon Chandigarh would become a part of TiE’s global auto component special interest group which currently has linkage in Detroit, Pune and Chennai, and another similar groups are planned to link up this region for leather, auto parts, textile, bicycle and sports good industries abroad.
These special interest groups promote best industry practices and help them network with various stakeholders in the entrepreneurial ecosystem including financial institutions, innovators, technical experts, and management professionals Mr Suren Dutia said.
Promoting entrepreneurship is the main agenda of TiE to help build human capital, bring about social change, eradicate poverty through creation of job, he added.
TiE members who are successful entrepreneurs from across the world, help the new enterprises in setting up ventures, innovation, management, and networking them with venture capitalists or angel investors to make them realize their dreams.
Suren is actively involved with regional cabinet of Washington University in St Louis, and is an investor and consulting advisor to a number of business ventures.
Puneet Vatsayan, President of Chandigarh Chapter of TiE informed that very soon an entrepreneurship help desk would be set up for mentoring local entrepreneurs.
