By Y.S. RANA,CHANDIGARH, DEC 30 : The Annual Sports Week of The Banyan Tree School concluded at the school premises in Sector 48 here today. Haryana Financial Commissioner VS Kundu, IAS, was the chief guest and distributed the prizes.
The two-hour lively programme featured of athletic and cultural events.
The students of junior wing participated in bunny race, lemon and spoon race, three-legged race and sack race. The seniors took part in the 400, 200 and 100 metres races, slow cycling and chatty race
The enthusiasm of the audience knew no bounds when they witnessed their small ones dancing on the beats of Dr Jones. The grand finale of the programme was an energetic and power-packed bhnagra and gidda performance by the senior students of the school.
A prize distribution ceremony was also conducted in which students were given prizes for excelling in academies and sports events. Vidushi Rawat of class IV, who has 14 gold medals at the state level skating competition, was honoured in absentia as she has gone to represent Chandigarh in the National championship..
Wicketkeeper Shine Sharma, who was selected by the Board of Control for Cricket in India for Specialised Academy in Chennai, tennis players Kabir Manrai and Taranbir Singh Oberio were among those presented medals. Teachers and other staff members were also felicitated with cash incentives on the occasion Principal Dr Tanvir Saini read out the annual report.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Kundu praised the efforts of the school management, including Director Ravinder Talwar, for organizing such function in a professional manner. “I can see the students with energy and enthusiasm to takeg part in various sports and cultural activities. The school is providing good infrastructure to the sportspersons for training and competitions. The students must strive hard to give their 100 per cent while taking in sports activities and academies.”
Mr Gurjit Singh Oberio, a renowned businessman and a philanthropist, presided over the function in which the parents kept on cheering the participants in different activities.
