By Yadavindra S Rana,CHANDIGARH : The Chandigarh Lawn Tennis Association trainees brought laurels to the city by winning three gold, including two team trophies, two bronze and one silver medals in the recently concluded National School Games in New Delhi.
The Chandigarh team, comprising Divvijay Naruka (DAV-15), Bhavtaran Singh (SD Public-32), Uday S Mann (DAVSSS-8), Dheeranush Bhatti (DAVP-8) and Vikas Berwal (DAV-15), claimed the boys under-19 team trophy.
The Chandigarh team also annexed the boys under-17 team championship. CHART trainee Ranjeet Singh (DAVSS-8), Pranav Suri (St John’s-26), Santbir Singh (DPS-40) and Rahul Sethi (St Peter’s-37) helped Chandigarh bag the team trophy.
Ranjeet Singh, a product of Chandigarh Rural Tennis Academy, popularly known as CHART, also claimed individual gold medal in the under-17 category. Pranav Suri got silver medal.
The Chandigarh girls under-19 team consisting of Ravnoor Kaur (SDP-32), Nikita Bishnoi (DAVP-8) and Bhavika Wadhawan (Sacred Heart-26) returned with the team bronze medal. Ravnoor Kaur also had to her credit the individual bronze medal.
CLTA chief patron Rajan Kashyap congratulated the players for their fine performance. He also promised the CLTA trainees, who perform well in the ITF Junior Tennis (Grade 3) which begins on January 9, performance-based incentives. Those who win second round upward in the main draw will be eligible for the incentives. The players were offered tea and light refreshment at the CLTA Stadium in Sector 10.
