Sentosa, March 25: Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) member Amandeep Johl shot the best round among the six Indians competing at the International Final Qualifying event for the British Open 2008. Johl’s first round score of two over 74 helped him finish the day in tied 31st place. PGTI members Shiv Kapur and
Digvijay Singh are both a stroke behind Johl in tied 37th place. Jyoti Randhawa and Rahil Gangjee returned scores of 77 to be tied 52nd at the end of day one.
Malaysia’s Danny Chia, Filipino Angelo Que and Englishman Yasin Ali are the current leaders at three under 69.Amandeep Johl’s 74 on Tuesday was highlighted by a birdie on the ninth and bogeys on the third, 14th and 15th.Shiv Kapur’s first round 75 saw him make an eagle on the 12th, birdie on the fourth, bogeys on the fifth and 15th, and double bogeys on the eighth and 18th.Digvijay Singh also shot 75 on Tuesday. He sank birdies on the 10th, 12th, 13th, dropped bogeys on the 11th and 14th and double bogeys on the third and 15th.Jyoti Randhawa had an ordinary day at Sentosa Golf Club’s Serapong course as he fired five over 77 to be tied 52nd. Randhawa’s round included two birdies, five bogeys and a double bogey.Rahil Gangjee also carded 77 to join fellow PGTI member Randhawa in tied 52nd place.PGTI member Gurbaaz Mann returned a score of ten over 82 in round one to be tied 62nd.Four professionals will qualify from this event in Sentosa for The Open at Royal Birkdale, England in July.
