Sahib Singh , 22 July : Recently, I got a chance to visit the USA. Now considering what I had heard about America my expectations from the country were profound. And trust me when I say, I saw more than what I expected and had heard.
In terms of infrastructure, connectivity, law and order the country surpasses the Indian standards by huge numbers. I was astounded to see the systems developed by them. It seemed as if each thing was planned leaving no scope of failure. I was completely convinced that this is the country where no one could fail.
It did not take me long to make up my mind that I had to pursue my higher education in this country and had to settle there in the subsequent years. Each time I saw the traffic moving smoothly at high speeds on patch less roads I made it a point to criticize and abuse the most annoying Indian roads and traffic. But a rather uncanny event changed my perception on how I thought about the great country. In a most unexpected case of power failure the traffic lights were not functioning.
Now each one of us has surely witnessed the mayhem and the harassment one has to undergo whenever this happens on daily basis in our cities. But what shook me was that I saw traffic moving smoothly as if nothing had happened with a single car crossing the traffic lights from each side taking turns in clockwise direction from all the four sides. Hence the people averted a traffic jam just by keeping their heads together and patiently waiting for their turn.
That’s where I started thinking that it was these men who had toiled hard through years to make this nation great. They had worked with full dedication to develop the infrastructure through the years. Men made the systems, which never failed, only with others following them with full commitment and responsibility. It was that moment which made me realize that leaving my country for a better life would only be cowardice. If men did all this, then in terms of potential, my nation had the biggest pool of hardworking and talented men.
As soon as I came back to India my perception about every Indian agony had changed. I saw the broken roads as waiting with a hope to be rebuilt by men. I saw the dilapidated buildings silently waiting for men to convert them into skyscrapers of the future. I was booming with optimism about every misery of this nation. It is evident that what makes a country great is nothing but just its citizens. Where we falter is that we don’t realize our responsibility towards our nation. All we do is denigrate it and declare that this nation would never change. All we do is that we play the blame game.
But sooner or later we have to realize that it is only us who can bring about this change and it will happen the day we wish to. I hope someday we have an Indian Obama who makes us believe,“ Yes We Can”.
and now I can do it
it is completely true. only we can tackle the problems we face.lets make a beginning now. but for this to begin the beauracracy has to go away. we must start thinking about the nation before we think about ourselves.
it is highly motivating. this arouses a firm belief in me and an assurance that the youth of our nation is fully equipped for the upcoming future. the fact is true that only we can do it.
