By Sargun Makhni 30th September 2008 :Wake up India! Before it’s too late,My country! In thy day of glory past,A beauteous halo circled round thy brow,And worshipped as a deity thou wast Where is that glory know?In the above lines the poet clearly laments his feelings of every true citizen towards there native land. But the scenario is not the same at the present, though we have achieved 60 years of independence still the fear factor remains the same. Today the poor are still not free from the fear of freedom. They are in tangled in between the nets of poverty, corruption, caste, creed and color. Today the poverty, corruption and unemployment are the three basic reasons behind it.
The poor today in India are becoming poorer day by day and rich and becoming richer day by day. The distance between them is touching great heights and is becoming status symbols. The person with all the materialistic things is considered to a person with higher status as compared to a person who has values and traditions. The legal world holds no name in front of fear and as it is well said that fear always springs from ignorance.
People of India ignore there responsibilities towards there native land. Today the Independent India is considered as the sleeping giant. Although western media often shows modern images of India as that of poverty and lack of development, India was the richest country on earth until the time of British invasion in the early 17th Century. Today’s India is on the threshold of regaining its lost glory and above all these Rabindra Nath Tagore was not wrong when he said Where the mind is without fear and The head is held high, where knowledge Is free into that heaven of freedom, my Father let my county awake!
So awake India! Before it’s too late
