By Sacinandana Swami : As an example of this transcendental method, let us look at verse 10.14.8 from the Shrimad Bhagavatam, which Prabhupada has denoted as a guideline for all devotees.
tat te nukampam su-samiksamano
bhunjana evatma-krtam vipakam
hrd-vag-vapurbhir vidhadhan namas te
jiveta yo mukti-pade sa daya-bhak
“My dear Lord, one who earnestly waits for You to bestow Your causeless mercy upon him, all the while patiently suffering the reactions of his past misdeeds and offering You respectful obeisances, with his heart, words, and body, is surely eligible for liberation, for it has become his rightful claim.”The First Step
Let us analyze the four elements of the verse:
1- earnestly hoping for Krishna’s mercy,
2- accepting responsibility for what happens and suffering one’s reactions with tolerance and patience,
3- offering obeisances with heart (attitude, meditation, etc.), words (prayers, glorifications, bhajans, chanting, etc.), and body (physical obeisances and service, etc.), and
4- the result—one becomes qualified to go back home, back to Godhead.
The Second Step
Live by the teachings of this verse!
1- always expect the mercy of Lord Krishna,
2- try to see Krishna’s mercy in the so-called good things that happen,
3- try to expand this vision to encompass the challenges in your life—always see everything as Krishna’s mercy,
4- accept full responsibility for whatever comes your way and become aware that Krishna has personally sent that challenge into your life to inspire you to change something, and
5- always engage your heart, body and words in Krishna’s service.
If we can react in this way to the things that happen in our lives we will change our whole life, but if we keep reacting in the same predictable ways, everything will be the same.
Please try the method given in this example. It works.
Good luck!
