8 Jan : Fulfilling a budget promise, Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee has introduced a Rs 66 lakh mobile ticketing van scheme for railway passengers in Kolkata and New Delhi.
“Such mobile ticketing service vans will enable railway passengers to purchase tickets from their localities instead of having to take the trouble of going to reservation centres. This will free them from harassment by touts,” Banerjee said at the launch of the ‘Muskil Asan’ scheme in Kolkata.
Banerjee said the mobile service in Kolkata would be available from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm every day at locations like Lake Town, Rubi Hospital crossing, Garia, Golpark and Shyambazar and No 14 bus stand in Behala area.
Earlier in her budget speech, the railway minister had said that the issue of computerised tickets from post offices and a mobile ticketing service were being considered.
