June 15:As part of the upgradation plan of the narrow gauge rolling stock, the Railway Ministry will induct high-tech coaches to provide better comfort to passengers of the heritage trains. While ultra modern coaches equipped with improved facilities will replace the old and worn-out ones, the Ministry is also planning on steps to increase the speed of these trains.
A senior Railway Ministry official said in New Delhi that the technology has changed drastically in the last 100 years and existing coaches are in dire need of replacement. He said that there will be better panoramic view and sitting arrangement and more luggage and leg space provided in the new coaches, while not changing the heritage ambience. He said that the Railways’ plan involves replacing the 500-odd narrow gauge coaches currently running on the Darjeeling Himalayan, Kalka-Shimla, Pathankot-Joginder Nagar, Nagpur-Chhindwara, Neral-Matheran and Gwalior sections.Courtsey: AIR
