QUESTION NUMBER ONE : Let Mr Badal explain how his wealth went into orbit?
CHANDIGARH, January 20: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Capt Amarinder Singh today asked the Chief Minister Mr Parkash Singh Badal to explain to the people of Punjab the source of his huge wealth that includes fleet of vehicles, television channels, two super luxury seven star hotels in Gurgaon, besides shares in Orbit Aviation, an airline company and hidden assets within and outside the country.
In the first question as part of his series of questions Capt Amarinder will pose to Mr Badal for an answer in the coming week, he pointed out, Mr Badal had inherited just 80 acres of land from his father and how come he became so wealthy without doing any business other than politics. “Politics has turned out to be quite a lucrative business for Mr Badal”, he remarked.
Giving details of the wealth of Mr Badal, the PCC President pointed out, he (Mr Badal’s) and his family which includes his son and Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal owns a fleet of luxury buses which they are operating under Orbit Transport Company and Dabwali Transport Company.
Besides, he added, the family owns a few television channels including news and entertainment under the name of PTC which are again worth hundreds of crores. And moreover, the family owns two super-luxury hotels in Gurgaon which alone are worth about Rs 4000 crores. He revealed that Sukhbir’s Orbit Resorts had shares in Orbit Aviation also an airline company in the name of his close relative Mr Satyajit Singh Majithia.
Capt Amarinder said, the people of Punjab had a right to know the answer to this question as what miracle took place that Mr Badal’s wealth multiplied by leaps and bounds during his six decade political career. He said, he has been the Chief Minister for four terms and is seeking a fifth term and he owes and explanation to people of Punjab about what he did for himself and what he did for Punjab. “On the personal wealth front he scores 100 out of 100 while on Punjab front less said the better”, he remarked.
