RAMGARH (KAPURTHALA), December 17: The Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Capt Amarinder Singh today rued the total anarchy in the state and regretted that the Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal had gone absolutely dumb. He also reiterated his party’s stand that each and every false case registered against the Congress workers would be accounted for and responsibility fixed.
Addressing a mammoth rally organised by local MLA Sukhbpal Singh Khaira to commemorate the birth anniversary of his late father and former minister Sukhjinder Singh, Capt Amarinder Singh said, there was no governance in the state and it was being run by his Deputy Chief Minister son Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal much against the provisions of the Constitution.
Taking a dig at the Badals in his exclusive style, the PCC President said, they had looted and robbed the state. “Sukhbir Badal was having the dreams of ruling Punjab for another 25 years while he had ruined it in just four years”, he observed while adding, he should ask himself what he has really done for Punjab to have such dreams.
Capt Amarinder Singh kept the audience involved sending them too frequently into fits of laughter as he referred to the Badals in his characteristic style. He said, the Badals had such an unending thirst for money that they were grabbing everything they thought would earn them money. Be it the sand, transport, cable or liquor and they had their hand in every pie. He remarked, under the Badals sand is selling for Rs 8 per kg as the audience burst into a fit of laughter.
During his speech he referred to Barnala MLA Kewal Dhillon, who was also present, that the Badals had already taken over a popular dhaba which was doing a very good business in his constituency. At this an elderly man rose from the audience telling Capt Amarinder Singh, “you are talking about Deepak Dhaba in Barnala they are also eyeing the Haveli in Jallandhar as that is also doing good business”.
The PCC President maintained that Mr Sukhbir Badal was gradually confessing to all the excesses and illegal activities he had committed during the last four years. He disclosed that recently during a meeting with senior police officers Sukhbir had told them he (Sukhbir) will no longer tolerate any false cases, any drug trafficking, any land grabbing and any betting. “This is a frank admission on part of Sukhbir and now he must be tired of all these things and has asked his officers to stop them”, he remarked, as the audience laughed and cheered loudly.
Reacting to Sukhpal Khaira’s demand for setting up an enquiry commission in his constituency after the formation of the government against the unprecedented excesses committed by the police and the Akali leaders, Capt Amarinder Singh asserted, the Congress government will not only investigate and fix responsibility against excesses in Bholath, but the entire state as the Akalis had got registered over 20,000 cases against the Congress workers across the state.
Capt Amarinder Singh paid glowing tributes to late Sukhjinder Singh recalling his association with him as a minister about 25 years ago. He said, he (late Sukhjinder Singh) was a man of principles and never compromised on these. He also lauded the efforts of Sukhpal Khaira for setting up Sukhjinder Singh Foundation for social services in the area.
Earlier Sukhpal Khaira expressed his gratitude to Capt Amarinder Singh for addressing the first public rally in his constituency after becoming the PCC President.
Prominent among those present today included former ministers and MLAs including Amarjit Singh Samra, Santokh Chaudhary, Sukhjinder Randhawa, Arvind Khanna, Kewal Dhillon, Joginder Singh Mann, Mangat Ram Bansal, CD Kambhoj, Major Amardeep, Jasbir Singh, Manjit Singh Calcutta and others.
