Karnatka , 26 May: In Karnataka, BJP Chief Ministerial candidate B S Yeddyurappa has been formally elected Legislature party leader.Yeddyurappa will meet Governor Rameshwar Thakur to stake claim for government formation.
Giving boost to its efforts to cobble up majority, two independents, Goolihatti Shekhar and Shivaraj Thangadi, supporting BJP, attended the Legislature Party meeting in which the BJP MLAs and top leaders were present.The national leaders of the party also held a separate meeting with the top state BJP leaders to discuss the political scene and government formation in the state.
BJP has won 110 seats in the assembly elections for 224 member house.Our correspondent reports that BJP still needs support of at least one newly elected MLA to have a working majority in the assembly.
AIR Correspondents covering the Karnataka developments report that with the election of the legislature party leader, the focus has shifted to governance. Infrastructure development in the IT city, development of back ward areas like Hyderabad -Karnataka region, transparent governance and ameliorating the lot of farming community including the provision of free power for irrigation are some of the pressing issues that call for the attention of the government . Reforms in power sector, creation of more employment opportunities, inclusive growth and a congenial and conducive atmosphere to ensure more foreign direct investment are some other issues that need to be taken up in the right earnest. Dealing with the terrorism will be the litmus test for the government apart from providing a stable government. It remains to be seen at what cost the party got the support of the Independent’s to have a working majority in the 224 member assembly.
