Chandigarh, Dec 9 : TERMING Congress as the party of anti-poor ideologues, the former union minister Harmohan Dhawan on Friday said that he doubted that Congress ever wanted development and intended to eradicate corruption. Dhawan, who was addressing a public meetind in the support of Rajesh Gupta – a candidate jointly fielded by the BJP-Shiromani Akali Dal in Ward 16 – said that Congress had made people’s life miserable since it failed to check corruption and soaring prices of essential commodities.
“The time has come to initiate the change. Let BJP-SAD candidates register their victory in municipal elections and maintain the victory-march up to the parliament,” Dhawan said. Noted actor and BJP’s star campaigner Kiran Kher – who urged electorate to vote for the BJP-SAD candidates – stated that Rajesh Gupta relentlessly worked for the development of Ward 16. He also promised to continue the momentum of progress in the ward.
She said that the candidates fielded by the BJP-SAD alliance in Chandigarh were heading towards victory and they would script a new chapter of development, better urban planning and civic amenities in the history of the city beautiful. Rajesh Gupta said that he would also live up to the expectations of the people of Ward 16. He also promised to complete all pending tasks and sought people to vote for him for the same.
Suspecting the credentials of the Congress candidate, BJP’s circle president Narinder Gupta said that people had already rejected him during the last elections. “People will not tolerate a tainted candidate and they will elect Rajesh Gupta only,” he said. Several other BJP leaders including Kanwar Lal and S S Chawla also canvassed for Rajesh Gupta and requested electorate to vote and support the BJP-SAD candidate.
