In the background of the huge population explosion in India, Social activist Nutan Thakur has filed a PIL No 446 of 2013 in Allahabad High Court, Lucknow Bench. Here she has prayed to ensure that two-child norm is adopted as the National Population Policy and to link suitable incentives and disincentives with this.
The Writ says that the population explosion is a truly serious problem in India. The current National Population Policy is vague and non-specific and has failed to serve its purpose to the required level, hence there is a need to adopt a definite and specific two child norm. The petition says that the Supreme Court in cases like Javed vs State Of Haryana And Ors and Zile Singh vs State Of Haryana & Ors has endorsed the two-child norm.
The matter shall be heard tomorrow (21/01/2013) before the Bench of Chief Justice Shiva Kirti Singh and Justice D K Arora.
