In view of the special needs of women, Social activist Nutan Thakur, along with Anupam Pandey has filed a PIL No 259 of 2013 in Allahabad High Court, Lucknow Bench asking for installation of CCTVs in women lock-up and office area of all police stations in India. She has also prayed for clearing the female lock-ups in various police stations of UP which presently are occupied by arms, ammunitions, case properties etc. Home Secretary, Government of India, Principal Secretary Home and DGP, UP are the respondents in the case. The case shall be heard tomorrow (11/01/2013) before the Bench of Justice Uma Nath Singh and Justice V K Dixit.
In the petition, Thakur has said that installation of CCTVs in office area of police stations will help enhance the service of the police stations and will increase the sense of security among women complainants and victims. Similarly, CCTV in women lock up will act as a deterrent for any criminal act being committed against arrested women.
