Tamilnaidu,4 July:More than 900 Tamil Nadu fishermen who were reportedly "hijacked" along with their 200 fishing boats, allegedly by the Sri Lankan Navy at midnight in Palk straits, were released on Thursday afternoon.
The officials, describing it as the first such incident involving such large numbers, quoted fishermen as saying that "about 20 well-armed Sri Lankan Naval personnel came in boats surrounded them and blindfolded them and took them to Talaimanner.""At least 50 to 80 boats have been damaged in the indiscriminate firing by Sri Lankan Navy men," they alleged.
