Chennai, 18 Sep :The All India Salon of Photography organised by the Photographic Society of Madras (PSM) was inaugurated by ace Cinematographer, PC Sreeram today at the Lalit Kala Academy. The All India Salon and Exhibition is a 5 –day photography extravaganza that will play host to artistry and creativity of over 1500 photographers from across the country.
The All India Salon and exhibition will showcase around 2500 world-class photographs taken by an array of eminent photographers and upcoming amateurs in the industry. The photographs are categorized under six sections, namely Monochrome, Journalism, Nature, Landscape, Portrait and a special section on “The Girl Child”. Also on display is a separate section, which is non-competitive and will display photographs from the Members of the PSM.
The entries to the All India Salon have been judged by an impressive panel of judges comprising of Mr. Benu Sen from Kolkatta, Mr. G. Venkat Ram from Chennai, Mr. H. S. Ganesh from Bengaluru, Mr. Iqbal Mohammed from Ootacamund and Mr. T. N. A. Perumal also from Bengaluru. The winners would be honoured with three cash prizes per section amounting to total prize money of over Rs. 2 lakhs, apart from other trophies and certificates.
Commenting at the inauguration, ace Cinematographer PC Sreeram said that “I am very happy to be a part of this occasion. This form of art needed a society like the Photographic Society of Madras. The photographers must attempt to capture pictures that hold the attention of the viewer and makes the viewer go back to the picture again. Substance was the key to good photography”.
The All India Salon of Photography will wind up with a Valedictory and award-giving function to be held at the Kalaignar Arangam on September 21st, 2008 with renowned photographer Padmashri Raghu Rai and Shri Mani Ratnam as Chief guests of the evening.
