The All India Salon of Photography organised by the Photographic Society of Madras (PSM) came to end with an award – giving and valedictory function attended by a host of well – renowned photographers including Magnum Phototographer Padma Shri Raghu Rai at Kalaignar Arangam.
The All India Salon and Exhibition was a 5 –day photography extravaganza that played host to artistry and creativity of over 1500 photographers from across the country.
Commenting at the valedictory function, Magnum Cinematographer Padma Shri Raghu Rai said that “Congratulations PSM on the 150th year anniversary celebration. The preserved photographic treasures will enrich many of the viewers and how photography has grown as an art form. I wish all the best for the future generation of photographers to come and contribute equally in meaningful photographic work”.
The All India Salon and exhibition showcased around 2500 world-class photographs taken by an array of eminent photographers and upcoming amateurs in the industry. The photographs were categorized under six sections, namely Monochrome, Journalism, Nature, Landscape, Portrait and a special section on “The Girl Child”. Also on display was a separate section, which was non-competitive and displayed photographs from the Members of the PSM.
The entries to the All India Salon have been judged by an impressive panel of judges comprising of Mr. Benu Sen from Kolkatta, Mr. G. Venkat Ram from Chennai, Mr. H. S. Ganesh from Bengaluru, Mr. Iqbal Mohammed from Ootacamund and Mr. T. N. A. Perumal also from Bengaluru.
Commenting on the salon ace photographer Mr. G. Venkat Ram said, “I’m really glad that there’s a forum like PSM for photography enthusiasts- both professionals and hobbyists. It’s a great platform for all of them to come together. I’m astounded by the quality of work showcased in the exhibition."
The winners were honoured with three cash prizes per section amounting to total prize money of over Rs. 2 lakhs, apart from other trophies and certificates. The Photographic Society has been at the forefront of this art and science, from almost the discovery of photography. PSM plans to make the Salon an annual feature, offering the best rewards for each person’s efforts
