Chandigarh, June 4: The Shiromani Akali Dal today asked the PPCC president Mr. Partap Singh Bajwa to establish his innocence on charges of his links with terrorists and drug smugglers by throwing Captain
Amarinder Singh out of the party “before asking the BJP to part ways with the SAD over the issue of political patronage to drug peddlers. “Captain Singh had alleged that Mr. Bajwa had links with terrorists
and with the dons of the dangerous drug mafia and these charges still remain unchallenged by Mr. Bajwa,”said the SAD General Secretary Mr Harcharan Bains in a statement here.
“Amaridner Singh’s damning allegations against Mr. Bajwa were made not in just routine or off the cuff remarks to the media. These allegations form a part of the letter which Captain Singh had written to the Congress president, Ms Sonia Gandhi. Captain Singh has not denied the letter to this day. Before being overly worried about any so-called differences of opinion between the SAD and the BJP leadership over the drug menace, Mr Bajwa should either come clean on these allegations against him or expel Captain Amarinder Singh from the Congress,” said Mr Bains
The Akali General Secretary said that in the event of Mr Bajwa’s failure to act against Captain Amarinder Singh because of his pathetic standing with the Congress High Command, the PPCC president had the honourable option of resigning on his own from the Presidency, if not from the party itself.” If he can’t even take action against a Congressman who calls him “anti-national and drug don” , what good is he doing as the president of the party? He would be doing a great service to the dignity of the office of the PPCC president if he quits in protest against his own humiliation at the hands of Captain Amarinder Singh every morning, evening and night,” said the SAD General Secretary.
About Mr Badal’s statement asking for the names of the “big drug fish” to be made public, Mr Bains said Mr Bajwa had been named by Captain Amarinder Singh as “anti-national and a smuggler” even before any other names were made public. He needs to respond to that rather than worrying about the Akali- BJP relationship.”
Mr. Bains lamented that even the quality of the language used by Mr Bajwa in his statement against Mr. Badal unfortunately revealed “ a criminal mindset and showed what kind of circle the PPCC president really moves in. He must not speak a smuggler’s language if he wants to prove Amaridner wrong. This is not the kind of language which responsible representatives of the people speak. May be, that is also one of the reasons why he is no longer a representative of the people.”
