Dr. Avnish Jolly, Chandigarh, August 19, 2008 :Punjab Government has initiated the process to identify promising land parcels in the state to drive SEZ activity in the IT/ITeS sector to attract investment in the state.
A high level meeting under the chairmanship of Mr. Ramesh Inder Singh, Chief Secretary of Punjab was held yesterday to address land availability issues for the IT/ITeS industry, which was attended by several senior level officers.
Following a brief presentation by Ernst & Young, it was felt that Punjab Infotech, the nodal agency for IT investment promotion in the State, should prioritise projects in areas such as Mohali, Ropar, Kapurthala, Patiala, Jalandhar, Amritsar, and Ludhiana.
The focus of the Government is to clearly identify promising land parcels which have strong location drivers and are a minimum of 25 acres to drive SEZ activity in the IT/ITeS sector, before it approaches large IT companies to do business in the State.
The Government has already earmarked 50 acres of land to transfer to Punjab Infotech for developing an IT Park at Kapurthala.
Earlier in the day, the Principal Secretary of Industry & Commerce, Punjab, Mr. S.S.
