CHANDIGARH, January 29: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee took strong exception to the advertisement issued in various Punjabi newspapers today by the Shiromani Akali Dal led by Mr Parkash Singh Badal, in the name of Sant Samaj and Damdami Taksal, invoking people to vote in the name of religion.
In a complaint filed with the Election Commission of India, the PCC sought action against those who had got the advertisement inserted in the newspapers as it violated several provisions of the election code of conduct. It also appealed to the newspapers not to accept such provocative advertisements as these can lead to vitiating the peaceful atmosphere in the state.
The party brought to the notice of the commission that the advertisement had actually been issued by the SAD-B and the name of the Sant Samaj and the Damdami Taksal was merely used in the process. The party urged the commission to book the SAD president Mr Sukhbir Badal for violating the election code of conduct as also instigating people to violence and also seeking votes in the name of religion.
