CHANDIGARH, June 2: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Capt Amarinder Singh today appealed to all the party workers contesting against the official candidates in municipal corporation elections in Ludhiana, Patiala, Jallandhar and Amritsar to withdraw lest the party needs to take strict action against them.
In a statement issued here today Capt Amarinder asked all the rebels to withdraw by Monday, June 4, failing which they will be expelled from the party for a period of six years.
Maintaining that the rebels will not gain anything by standing against own party candidates, it will only provide undue advantage to the Akali-BJP alliance. He said, this was the time for the party rank and file to unite and romp home all the four municipal corporations.
The PCC President said, the candidates were selected after thorough discussions and deliberations. He said, while party understands the aspirations of the workers to contest, but it is not possible to give seat to every applicant. Hence, as loyal workers they must accept the party decision and withdraw as independents and support the party candidates.
