PATIALA/CHANDIGARH, February 2: Asserting that performing the party duty is the responsibility of all the party leaders and workers and not just by invitation, senior Congress leaders and MLAs today said that it was unfortunate that some leaders were trying to raise irrelevant issues to evade the responsibility. “Party duties are not by invitation, but everybody’s responsibility”, they asserted.
Responding to the statements by two party MLAs Brahm Mohindra and Randeep Nabha, senior party leaders and MLAs including Rana KP Singh, Rana Gurjeet Singh, Rana Sodhi, Ajaib Singh Bhatti, Sukhjinder Randhawa, Fateh Jang Bajwa and Tripat Rajinder Singh Bajwa said, it was intriguing that why they (Mohindra and Nabha) had excused themselves from the party duties when the entire party rank and file was in the battle gear and were now trying to wriggle out by spreading lies.
They urged the PCC President Capt Amarinder Singh to bring the issue to the notice of the Congress President Ms Sonia Gandhi, the Vice President Mr Rahul Gandhi and the general secretary incharge Mr Gulchain Singh Charak so that disciplinary action is taken against the two leaders.
Referring to Mr Mohindra’s statement that he was not informed, the leaders pointed out, “he (Mohindra) is contradicting himself as on the one hand he says he was not informed and at the same time he was claiming that he campaigned for the party candidate”. The matter of the fact, the Congress leaders added, is that he came once to Moga and told the office incharge that he could not campaign in the areas allocated to him for the reasons best known to him.
They said, Mohindra being a senior leader and member of AICC owes an explanation to the party as why he abstained from the campaigning in such an intriguing manner. “Just by diverting the issue and raising the issue of leadership does not exonerate him from the explanation for abstaining from the campaign and dereliction of duty”, they asserted.
About Randeep Nabha, Congress leaders remarked, “less said the better”. They said, no doubt he (Nabha) had excused himself by claiming he was not feeling well and had some family issues, but the way he was found and booked by police involved in a brawl in Chandigarh Golf Course had put everybody to shame, except him (Nabha).
“When the entire party was fighting a serious electoral battle in Moga Nabha was in the news for all the wrong reasons”, they pointed out, while wondering whether this should be the conduct of such senior leaders as Nabha claims himself to be.
