CHANDIGARH, May 27: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Capt Amarinder Singh today said that the first Prime Minister of India Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru had a special attachment with Punjab. He said, Pandit Nehru was a great visionary who not only provided leadership to the country but was respected world over.Speaking on the occasion of the forty-sixth death anniversary of Pandit Nehru here today, Capt Amarinder said, Punjab owed a lot to him. He said, Pandit Nehru spelt out a vision for India and laid strong foundations for the industrial and economic progress of the country touching all sections of the society.
The PCC President said, Pandit Nehru was a great visionary who conceived a middle path of peace and non alignment when the world was divided between two blocks which were engaged in cold war. He said, Pandit Nehru’s ideals are as much valid and relevant today as these were at the time of the freedom of the country.
Appealing the party men to follow the path set by the great leaders like Pandit Nehru, Capt Amarinder Singh remarked, “we are proud to have Pandit Nehru as the first Prime Minister who led the country into a new dawn of freedom and progress”.
Prominent among those who offered tributes to Pandit Nehru included Mr Laal Singh, Vice President PCC, general secretary attached to PCC President, Arvind Khanna, Balbir Singh Sidhu, Ms Rajinder Kaur, Member AICC, Capt. Sandeep Sandhu, Karanpal Sekhon and Major Amardeep.
