NSUI Punjab has stepped into the ongoing row in Khalsa College, Amritsar where efforts are being made to convert the college into a deemed university. The NSUI Punjab President Govind Khatra informed the media persons today that NSUI will form a consensus among the students of the college regarding the issue and also start meetings with the teachers of the college to form a Joint Action Committee. The demands of the Joint Action Committee on the issue would then be put across the College Management in a more organized, effective and forceful manner.” An institution is meant for the benefit of the students and any decision of the institution should be taken by taking the students into confidence”, said Govind Khatra. If the opinion of the students and the teachers is sidelined then NSUI will stage protests in various forms such as rallies, strikes, hunger strikes etc to get the voice of the students heard. NSUI will mobilize and unite the students on the issue who otherwise are hesitant to voice their concerns to the management for various reasons.
NSUI also warned the management of any unjustified action against the protesting students to curb their voice and warned that it will not hesitate to protest democratically against the management if any unjustified action is taken against the protesting student(s) as peaceful protest is the right of every individual.
“The protests by NSUI Punjab, however will be peaceful, lawful and within the rights given by the Constitution of India to its citizens”, informed Khatra.
