MOHALI, DECEMBER 12: The 3rd semester Fashion Design students of Northern India Institute of Fashion & Technology (NIIFT), Mohali showcased a Punjab craft and art display at NIIFT , Mohali today. Under FD program the students were required to explore different crafts of different states of India every year and this year they explored traditional crafts, architecture, and culture of colorful Rangla Punjab, Punjabi Virsa.
The 50 students of FD visited heritage cities like Patiala, Hoshiarpur and Anandpur Sahib to explore craft or to further enhance their knowledge and practical experience. The initiative was undertaken by the students in their FD course in which they were required to explore different crafts of various states of India. As a result the students this year got the opportunity to learn highly enriched craft of Punjab.
The Phulkari, Parande, Punjabi Jutties Durries and other innovative Products were centre of attraction in display. The students have undergone a workshop conducted by renowned artisans of Punjab.
To put up the display the students got ample help from their mentors Dr. Simrita Singh, Mr. Madan Lal, Ms. Navdeep Kaur all Assistant Professors and Mr. Gobind Rai Course Coordinator , FD, NIIFT Mohali.
Mr. Vishav Bandhu , Director NIIFT said that the students of FD department were in actual justifying their course purpose as they were gaining and learning from the roots by acquiring ample knowledge directly from the Craftsmen. They were also delivering excellent product development in return. This way the artisans of Punjab would be benefited, he asserted.
Mr. Inderjit Singh , Registrar NIIFT said that it was a great effort by students who have put in their hand labor in executive this wonderful display. They have got a great exposure of the arts and crafts of Punjab which was reflected in their display.”
