20 Jan 2010: A massive protest at DC office Mohali was organized following the call of 34 mass organizations of Punjab including workers, peasants, students and other section of society against the two anti people laws passed by the Punjab Govt.
In the recent times in Punjab, various section of toiling masses are agitating and protesting against the anti people policies of Govt. The democratic struggles of peoples including peasants, workers, govt employees, educated jobless youth are becoming hurdles for the govt to implement the policies which are not in favour of people.
To curb these democratic struggles, the Punjab govt has come with the following two laws:
1. Punjab prevention of damage to public and private property Act-2010.
2. Punjab special security group bill- 2010.
The above two laws are very draconian in their nature and opposite to the constitutional rights given to the citizens to raise their voice against the unjust policies of the authorities.
The first act will make the conditions same as seen during the imposition of section 144. It means, organizations will have to take special permission from district magistrate and whole program such as route, number of participant, slogans etc. of protest or agitation will be finalized by and with permission of the SSP.
The second law of special security group is more or less same as applied in Kashmir and North-Eastern part of India where violent protests are seen against the special powers given to armed forces and attracted the world’s concern towards the brutality of this law.
The Punjab Govt is trying to implement the same thing through back door.
The protest was addressed by Com Zora Singh Com Hakam Singh both are member of MCPI(U), Com Malkeet and com Vipin member of AICTU, Amarjeet, Baljinder, Balwinder, Manjeet Singh, Karan Singh all from Milkman Union Chandigarh and Mohali, Harbhajan, Tarsem from LPG auto Driver union.
