Mohali- 28 September: Smart Wonders School, Sector 71, Mohali celebrated the eternal spirit, soul and substance of women as Girl Child Day on Sep 27, 2010. The special invitees on the occasion were the mothers of the students. Prominent lady personalities of the tri-city added more luster to the occasion. Noted Punjabi singer Ms Dolly Guleria was the chief guest on the occasion. Ms Guleria raised a passionate plea for the recognition of the Girl Child’s role and responsibility in society. Her melodious rendition of her self-written and composed song ‘Baddhe chalo’ (keep moving on) also struck a meaningful note with the audience.
The children highlighted the lives and contributions of several prominent female personalities down the ages who have become role models and ideals for millions today. The children of Smart Wonders impressed the audience with their stage confidence and impeccable performances.
“A society which does not respect girls can never progress” was the message which was stressed upon by the Principal of Smart Wonders School, Ms Upasna Babuta in her speech. Mrs Babuta spoke of the need to educate children on the important contribution of girls in society as mother, leaders, social stakeholders and successful individuals in their own rights, so that they grow up with inbuilt respect for women’s role in society.
The programme concluded with refreshments. The occasion was a grand success as the children imbibed information nuggets about distinguished female personalities, polished their public speaking and presentation skills and were made aware of the importance of the female component of every population in society.
