By, Resham Singh, SAS NAGAR, MOHALI, 18th October, 2008 :Farmers club exists for the purpose of promotion of agriculture interests and furthering social interaction among those who are following the same occupation. To fulfill the said objects the undersigned got the opportunity to install farmers club in branch office Doomchheri near Morinda district Ropar of Punjab where I was holding the assignment as Manager Regional Rural Bank. The meetings were conduced; the farmers were made aware with the latest agro technologies, credit facilities, bank instructions, flexibilities of rules, local issues and their solutions, arrangement of various trainings etc. The club was proved as a guardian of members and all self help groups of the command area. Keeping in view the various activities of the club, the various agencies visited the area as well as the branch. Lastly the Governor of Punjab visited the village to appreciate the club and members of self help groups as they were working as the promoters of the Gramin Bank. Further I arranged to launch a number of such farmers club in the command area of the bank. However one farmers club named AKAL SAHAI FARMERS CLUB was launched at Village TIRA SANGHALA near CHANDIGARH under the command of Avtar Singh a very famous small farmer. Mr. Parabhjit Singh was asked to work as Chief Volunteer of the club. The aim was to guide the farmers to adopt organic farming with latest technology to enhance the income and to supply the pure vegetables and other eatables to preserve and maintain human life.
It was also stressed to diversify crop rotation from paddy wheat to wheat and vegetables& herbs such as Turmeric, Aleovera, Stevia etc. The club holds public meetings to aware and trains the farmers about latest technologies in agriculture. They were deputed to the training institutions to adopt organic farming. And finally the adopted the latest technologies and they supplied the pure eatables to the people. Keeping in view the progress made by the farmers the NATIONAL BANK FOR AGRICULTURE AND RURAL DEVELOPMENT (NABARD) Chandigarh awarded the state award to the club. The state government of Punjab also extended the financial help of Rs 2.5 lacs for purchase of agriculture implements etc. The club also succeeded to arrange the permanent medical facility for the farmer’s community from the Ranbaxy Laboratories. The club has proved that if you go against the nature it will be harmful for the people and club is the only solution for the development of the farmers.
Under the umbrella of farmers club they will be saved from the money lenders and exploitations. The club at present has become a training centre for the small and marginal farmers. The motto of the club is to earn more from the existing resources honestly, to supply organic vegetables, to plant medicinal plants, preparation of bio-pesticide sprays by using Neem, Dhatura, Castor, Desiaak etc. The ailing and tired earth has been provided with the vermicompost and biomas by prohibiting the farmers from using the pesticide and fertilizer. The club has shown the world to earn double income by adopting crop diversification and organic farming. The member farmers have cultivated more with decreased tubewell water.
The club has changed the life style of the young farmers by deputing them to the various training institution of the country. The members are regarded respectable citizens and have raised the voice against poverty, drugs, aids and other diseases.
