Ludhiana, April 6, 2008: All India Congress Committee spokesman Shri Manish Tewari has asked the state government to immediately order special girdavari (record of land cultivated) to assess the actual damage to the crops in all areas of state that were hit by incessant rainfall and hailstorms during past few days.
In a statement issued here today, Shri Tewari said that rain had caused immense damage to wheat and other crops in various parts of the Punjab, thereby dashing the hopes of farmers of bumper produce and hence proper compensation must be given to the affected farmers. The AICC spokesman further added that already farmers in the state were facing financial problems and now bad weather had further added to their woes. He said that Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal should take stock of situation and immediately order special girdavari and adequate compensation should be given to the farmers at the earliest.
