LUDHIANA, DEC 3 : Hosts Ludhiana claimed the overall trophy by logging 23 points in the Punjab Inter- School Tournament Under 16 (boys and girls) Group II, organized by the Punjab Sports Department at the Guru Nanak Stadium here today. Ropar were declared runners-up with 12 points while Moga got 10 points for the third place in overall standing.
Government Co-Education School, Rurka Kalan, Jalandhar bagged gold by defeating Ghuman Academy, Gurdaspur by 2-0 in the football final for boys. Govt. Sr. Sec. School , Mahalpur (Hoshiarpur) got bronze after defeating Govt. Sr. Sec. School, Phagwara, Kapurthala by 2-0.
The football honours for girls was claimed by Govt. Sr. Sec. School, Joga, Mansa who defeated Govt. High School, Dulwa, Fatehgarh Sahib by 2-0. Govt. Sr. Sec. School, Mall Road, Amritsar got bronze after beating Govt. Sr. Sec. School, Arniwal, Ferozpur by 1-0.
A.S. Sr. Sec. School, Khanna, Ludhiana defeated Govt. Sr. Sec. School, Amargarh, Sangrur 25-17, 25-23, 25-18 in the volleyball final for boys. For the third and fourth places Shivalik Public School Tarn Taran, beat Govt. Sr. Sec. School, Ropar 25-15,25-23,25-18. Govt. High School, Bhinda Kalan, Moga outplayed Govt. Sr. Sec. School, Kalsian, Ludhiana 25-18,25-11,25-17 in the girls volleyball final. Govt. High School, Lande Rode, Moga defeated Govt. Sr. Sec. School, Jalandhar 25-19,25-11,25-23 to finish third.
Kendria Vidyalaya No. 2 D.M.W. Patiala defeated B.V.M. Uddham Singh Nagar, Ludhiana 3-0 for the gold medal for boys table tennis. Guru Amar Dass Public School, Jalandhar and Jagat Jyoti Sr. Sec. School, Rani Ka Bagh, Amritsar were declared joint third. In the girls section, G.G.S.S. T.P., Model Power Colony, Ropar won the gold by defeating DAV International School, Amritsar 3-0. Innocent Heart School, Jalandhar and BVM Kichlu Nagar, Ludhiana were declared joint third.
In weightlifting for boys, Sr. Sec. School, Bharat Garh, Ropar finished on top. B.S.T. School, Kapurthala got silver whereas Govt. Sr. Sec. School, Manak Majra, Ludhiana won the bronze medal. In the girls category, Govt. Sr. Sec. School, Manak Majra, Ludhiana bagged gold, Govt. High School, Rurki, Jalandhar won silver and Govt. Sr. Sec. School, Bharat Garh, Ropar won the bronze.
Govt. Sr. Sec. School, Samrala, Ludhiana won the gold in boys wrestling, Govt. High School, Sur Singh Wala, Tarn Taran got silver and Govt. Sr. Sec. School, Ropar won bronze. Govt. Sr. Sec. School, Bilaspur, Moga clinched gold in girls wrestling, Govt. Sr. Sec. School, Tarn Taran won the silver and Govt. High School, Kot Dharmu, Mansa got bronze.
Dr. Daljeet Singh Cheema, Advisor to the Punjab Chief Minister, gave away the prizes to the winners. Dr. Cheema said that the Punjab Government was very serious to uplift sports in the state and implementing new schemes for the purpose.
Earlier Padma Shree Pargat Singh, Director Sports Punjab welcomed the chief guest, Mr. Prem Kumar,P.C.S., S.D.M. Ludhiana, Hazari Lal Sharma, Deputy Director, Jalandhar Division and Harpal Singh Kanwar Deputy Director Sports Patiala Division were also present on the occasion.
