Dr Harpreet S. Gill, Consultant and Head of Orthopaedics at SPS Apollo hospital, Ludhiana was invited for a guest lecture at 3rd International Symposium on new horizons in Arthroscopic Surgery held at Primus Hospital, Delhi on 29th & 30th March 2008. He delivered a talk on "SLAP lesions of shoulder". Around 100
delegates from all over India attended the conference. International faculty from Australia and U.K performed five live surgeries of knee, shoulder, elbow and wrist.
Dr HS Gill has also been invited as faculty at 27th North Zone Indian Orthopaedic Association’s annual conference to be held at India Habitat center, New Delhi from 4th-6th April 2008. He would be delivering a talk on "Surgical approaches for Knee Joint replacement". Knee joint replacement by "Sub-Vastus approach" gives better functional results in early period of physiotherapy. In this approach being done at SPS Apollo hospital, the muscle is not cut, rather lifted up, hence there is less bleeding and the patient can move his knee joint earlier. Randomised trials around the world have shown that the sub-vastus approach is significantly superior to the standard medial parapatellar approach for knee joint replacement in terms of short and long term knee function.
