JALANDHAR, OCT 18 :Former champion Punjab and Sind Bank of Delhi defeated Border Security Force of Jalandhar by 4-0 in the inaugural match of the Silver Jubilee IndianOil Servo Surjit Hockey Tournament at the Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium here today.
In another match Punjab Police and South Central Railways of Secundrabad played a goalless draw and split points.
In the inaugural pool A match Punjab and Sind bank gave an impressive performance. They opened their account in the 13th minute when Vikramjit Singh converted the first penalty corner (1-0). In the 26th minute Parminder Singh consolidated the lead (2-0). Four minutes later Bank’s Daler Singh scored a field goal (3-0). The winners were leading 3-0 at half time.
On resumption, the Bankmen maintained their pressure and scored the fourth goal in the 49th minute through Ranjodh Singh.
In another Pool A match between Punjab Police and South Central Railways ended in a goalless draw. Both teams got one point each.
Earlier Local Bodies Minister Manoranjan Kalia inaugurated the silver jubilee edition of the tournament. He announced grant of Rs 5 lakh to the Surjit Hockey Society.
