JALANDHAR, OCT 23 :Punjab & Sind Bank, Delhi will face Air India of Mumbai while Javed Hockey Club, Gojra (Pakistan) will meet defending champions IndianOil of Mukbai in the semi-finals of the Silver Jubilee IndianOil Servo Surjit Hockey Tournament now in progress at the Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium here.
In pool ‘B’ league match Javed Hockey Club, Gojra (Pakistan) beat Rail Coach Factory (RCF), Kapurthala by 11-2 and earned full points. Javed Hockey Club, Gojra (Pakistan) and Bharat Petroleum, Mumbai with one win and one draw, earned four points each. On the better goal average Javed Hockey Club, Gojra (Pakistan) earned the berth in the semi-final schedule to be held on October 24.
In the last league match in pool ‘D’ last defending champions IndianOil, Mumbai defeated Crescent Hockey Club, Sargodha (Pakistan) by 3-0 and qualified for semi-final.
In the first match Javed Hockey Club, Gojra (Pakistan) and Rail Coach Factory (RCF), Kapurthala was played at a fast pace. Both teams scored as many as seven goals in the first half. In the 7th minute the Pakistan lads opened their account when Tariq Aziz scored a field goal (1-0) . Khashif Ali increased the lead by converting their first panality corner in the 10th minute (2-0). Trailing 0-2, the RCF launched their attacks from left flank and managed to reduce the margin through Kuljinder Singh who converted their first penalty corner (1-2). In the 19th Minute Ranjodh Singh scored a field to equalise the score (2-2). In the 22nd and 25 minutes the Pakistan boys scored two goals through Tariq Aziz. At half time the visitors were leading by 5-2.
The second half turned out to be a one-sided affair with Javed Hockey Club, Gojra (Pakistan) adding six more goals to the credit. The scorers were Mohamad Sadiq (2 ), Innayat Ullah, Abdullah Babur (2 ) and Tariq Aziz.
The match between star studded IndianOil, Mumbai and Crescent Hockey Club, Sargodha (Pakistan) was a hot contested affair. Pakistan team missed as many as five sure goal chances including a penalty stroke. Defending Champion IndianOil were leading by 2-0 at half time. Vikramjit Singh, Nilesh and Kamlesh were the scorers for the IndianOil.
