While addressing the audience at 88th Akhil Bhartiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan (ABMSS), famous Punjabi poetess Miss Salima Hashmi has said that she has brought a message of love and peace from the across the border in Pakistan. She said that although India and Pakistan are two separate countries, but our culture, traditions, dress, language and literature are still the same. She said that nothing can keep people on both sides of the border apart.
Poetess Salima Hashmi welcomed thousands of Marathi’s who had come to attend the 88th Akhil Bhartiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan at historical village Ghuman in Gurdaspur district. She said that literature always acts as a magnet between both the nations and will continue to do so.
She also shared various aspects about the life of her father, famous Urdu poet Faiz Ahmed Faiz. She also recited some of her poems which won accolades from the audience.
For attending the 88th Akhil Bhartiya Marathi Sahitya Sammelan, Salima Hashmi was honoured by Dr Madhavi Vaidya, president of Akhil Bharatiya Marathi Sahit Mahamandal, Mr Bharat Desdala and Mr Subhash Desai. Dr Madhavi Vaidya invited Salima Hashmi for the next function as well.
On the second day today, a special interaction was organised with Mr Vijay Chopra, editor, Hind Samachar Group, who shared the centuries old association between people from Punjab and Maharashtra. While responding to questions by Mr Sudhir Gadgir, Mr Vijay Chopra said that Punjabi’s and Marathi’s have centuries old literary and cultural bonding and this could be known from the fact that thousands of Marathi’s are attending a literary function in Punjab. He said that Bhagat Namdev Ji reached Punjab from Maharashtra and composed the Bani which is part of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, the holy book of Sikhs.
Mr Vijay Chopra said that even Bollywood has played an important role for bringing the Punjabi’s and Marathi’s closer to each other. On a question related to Journalism, Mr Vijay Chopra said that during the days of Emergency, the Hind Samachar group worked fearlessly. He said that the group has started a Shaheed Parivar Bhalai Fund and is contributing for various social causes. The organisors honoured Mr Vijay Chopra on the occasion.
