Chandigarh: Sanjay Pahwa: As a part of Hara Punjab campaign Desh Bhagat Group of Institutes continued to distribute &plant trees in other villages of Punjab. Showing full commitment towards making Hara Punjab Mrs. Tajinder Kaur Vice Chairman Desh Bhagat Group of Institutes advised the residents of the villages to protect the environment by planting large number of trees.
Talking about trees she emphasized that Arjun tree is very common &can be grown throughout India. The soil of Punjab is suitable for the complete growth of this tree. While elaborating the medicinal uses of this tree Dr. Zora Singh Chairman Desh Bhagat Group of Institutes informed the villagers that the bark of Arjun tree contains calcium, magnesium & glucosides which have been widely used to cure dysentery &earache. He further enlightened that various parts of the tree contain antioxidant properties similar to vitamin E. It maintains the heart functioning normally. Arjun is also used for treatment of coronary artery diseases, Edima & Angina. It strengthens the heart muscles also. &nb sp; Mrs. Tajinder Kaur highlighting the qualities of this tree satisfied the queries of the villagers. The wood of this tree is used in boats, house building &for making agricultural implements.
The villagers were informed about the religious background of this tree. It is said that Arjuna was borne of the two sons of Kuber. Leaves of this tree are offered to lord Ganpati & lord Vishnu for worshipping.
The villagers showed enthusiasm and came forward in large numbers to participate in the campaign to make Hara Punjab. The following villages were covered during Hara Punjab campaign.
