Ludhiana : Punjab government College teachers association staged a protest dharna in the college campus under the aegis of Punjab Federation of University and College teachers association (PFUCTO) to impress upon their long pending demands and express their anguish against the SAD-BJP alliance government in the state. Large number of teachers participated in the dharna from 11 a.m to 1.00 p.m. While speaking on the occasion Prof. Jai pal singh President of Punjab Government College teachers association said that even after the one and half years the government has not released any instalment of their pay arrears and the bureaucrats and directorate of the colleges Punjab has not responded an inch even after repeated representations to the government.He said that Higher education is actually not an important agenda for the government and the political leadership is also not very serious issues concerning the state. He demanded that retirement age of the government college teachers should be in parity with their counterparts in the private colleges and universities. He said that directorate of higher education is working under slow pace and they have even not demanded the grants from the university grants commission which ultimately has to be released to the teachers. He said that initiatives regarding the promotion of Professors in the colleges is still not be started even after the notification of the pay scales was made in the 2nd September 2009. Teachers urges upon the Minister for Education , Sewa Singh Sekhwan to intervene and look upon the demands of the college and university teachers. He said that on 18th on March a massive rallies at regional levels will be organised and if no action is taken then we can think of boycott of examination for one day in the coming examinations.
