PATIALA, March 8 : Government Ayurvedic College here on Friday felicitated two eminent women personalities of the town in celebration of the Women’s Day at a function organized in the college campus.
Those honoured on the occasion by college Principal Dr Pardeep Kapil included Rekha Chopra, eminent writer and social activist, and theatre personality Sunita Sabharwal, who is the co founder of National Theatre Arts Society.
Sunita Sabharwal who is wife of eminent dramatist and actor Pran Sabharwal is also a director herself and has directed many children’s plays.
Rekha Chopra has already authored two books on cultural heritage of Patiala and places of tourist attractions in Patiala which were released by Union Minister of State for External Affairs Preneet Kaur. She is also a philanthropist and is associated with a number of social and voluntary organizations.
College principal Dr Pardeep Kapil on this occasion lauded the contribution of these two personalities in their respective fields and said that it was a befitting tribute to woman power to honour them on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
A declamation contest was organized on the occasion wherein college students participated in a big way. The outstanding speakers who spoke at length about the plight of women, particularly about the recent spurt of violence against women in the country in recent past, were also honoured on the occasion.
Dr Pardeep Kapil also announced on the occasion setting up of a reading room exclusively for girls in the college campus which was jointly inaugurated by Rekha Chopra and Sunita Sabharwal.
