Chandigarh, May 18, 2018. Justice Raj Mohan Singh of the Punjab & Haryana High Court has dismissed the Election Petition filed by Sh. Harminder Singh challenging the election of Sh. Ranjit Singh Brahmpura, MP to Lok Sabha from Khadoor Sahib Parliamentary Constituency held in April-May 2014. Sh. Brahmpura was elected as a candidate of the Shiromani Akali Dal-BJP alliance.
The election of Sh. Ranjit Singh Brahmpura was challenged by Sh. Harminder Singh, an elector in the constituency through Sh. S.S. Swaich, Advocate on the ground that he had appealed to the voters in the name of religion and that he had used the sikh religious symbols as well as National Flag during the election.
Sh. Brahmpura, through his lawyers Satya Pal Jain, Senior Advocate and Dheeraj Jain, had denied the allegations saying that he neither used any sikh religious symbol or National Flag for the purpose of elections. He had denied all the allegations in the Election Petition.
The issues were framed and the petition was listed for further consideration on May 16, 2018. However, inspite of number of calls, nobody appeared for the petitioner in the Court. Therefore, the Hon’ble Judge dismissed the Election Petition.
