LUDHIANA, April 15: Several Congress leaders today demanded removal of Punjab Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa for the party’s defeat in the Dhuri bye-election which was second in row under his leadership.
In a joint statement the party leaders including Pawan Dewan, Gurmail Pahalwan, Parminder Mehta, Satwinder Jawaddi, Baljinder Bunty, Vinod Bathla, Palwinder Taggar, G.S Mand said that since Bajwa had no moral values it was not expected of him to resign on moral grounds. Removing him was the only option, they said, adding, the more time he stays at the helm, more the party will suffer in Punjab.
They said, when the process for election started in Dhuri, Bajwa did not want Capt Amarinder Singh to campaign in Dhuri saying no big faces were required. But when he saw ground slipping beneath his feet he wanted Capt Amarinder to campaign.
Squarely blaming Bajwa for the debacle they said, Bajwa should not run away from owning the responsibility of the defeat. Since he is incapable of taking any moral stand, the high command has no other option but to remove him immediately.
