Pardeep Luthra, BATALA: Slamming the state government for “blatantly misusing” the police machinery to “settle political scores and further its political agenda”, Congress MLA’s Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Ashwani Sekhri and Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa said they are serious about alleged atrocities against Congress workers in district and is prepared to take “any step” under law to stop them.
Talking to media persons here at Congress Bawan, the leaders told that the Batala police was playing like puppet in the hands of akali leaders and registering fake cases against the congress workers.
Quoting an incident, Randawa told that after losing to congress leader by a margin of 600 votes from village Wadla Granhian, the akali leader of the area, Harbhajan Singh Toor, a close associate of former Qadian MLA, Lakhbir Singh Lodhinangal, started threatening the congress workers of the village for supporting the congress.
Few days back, under the pressure of Harbhajan Singh, congress worker and former block Samitti member, Joginder Singh, Dayal Singh and Tersem Singh were implicated in a fake case inspite of the SSP Batala’s Gurkirpal Singh had assured congress MLA, Ashwani Sekhri that no congressmen will be implicated in any fake.
Later, the three MLA’s met SSP and raising the issue of “persecution” by Sekhwan SHO, Mehanga Singh and demanded the immediate suspension of the SHO.
The leaders further warned that if cases registered against the congress workers were not withdrawn by the police within seven days, they along with other congress MLA’s of the state will hold a state level dharna infront of the Sekhwan police station.
When contacted SSP, Batala, he told that he had marked the enquiry to DSP(Rural), Ranjit Singh and assured that strict action will be taken against the SHO, if he found guilty.
