Banur/Patiala August 10: Punjab Chief Minister Mr. Parkash Singh Badal today categorically declared that there was hardly any challenge or threat to the electoral prospects of SAD-BJP Alliance in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections in the wake of the restructuring of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) in which former Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh had been made the Chairman of the Election Campaign Committee.
The Chief Minister was talking to the media persons at the side lines of the foundation laying stone ceremony of the 156 acre residential housing colony ‘Ajitgarh’ being developed by Panchsheel housing cooperative housing society on the Chandigarh-Rajpura road at village Karala, 8 K.Ms from Banur in the Patiala district. Mr. Badal further said that Capt. Amarinder Singh could not browbeat us in any way by making use of foul language. He said, "Chairman of election committee in the PPCC was hardly any position worth jubilation and more over we have seen his capability and capacity as a Chief Minister during his last tenure when he could manage to win only two seats and we in opposition captured eleven out of thirteen seats". Adding he said that SAD-BJP was confident for landslide victory in the ensuing Lok Sabha Polls as the people of Punjab were fully aware about the anti-people policies of the congress party.
On the issue of the appointment of the Chairmen of the Boards and Corporations in the state, Mr. Badal said that these would be made soon well before the Lok Sabha elections.
Regarding another question on the administrative reshuffle, the Chief Minister said that it was an on going exercise and a specified date could not be mentioned in this regard.
Asked to comment on possibility to make any amendment in the constitution of Shiromani Akali Dal Mr. Badal pointed out that the Constitution of the party was drafted by the then renowned Sikh scholars and intellectuals at the time of its inception and there was hardly any need to amend it. He however said that if the situation warranted any amendment in the Constitution of Shiromani Akali Dal in future then it could bring the same with the consensus of the party.
On the issue of giving some important position in the SGPC to the former Head Priest of Sri Akal Takht Sahib Jathedar Joginder Singh Vedanti, Mr. Badal said "this issue lies with in the domain of Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee and you better ask them".
Earlier addressing the members of the Panchsheel housing cooperative society Mr. Badal hoped that this upcoming residential colony would probably be one of the best colonies in the state. He appreciated the initiative of the management to rehabilitate and resettle the Delhi based residents after 1984 Sikh riots victims by developing this colony with a realization that they should have another residence in Punjab also. Mr. Badal assured the management that the state government would extend full some support and cooperation to the society for the timely completion of the project.
Speaking on the occasion Cooperation Minister Capt. Kanwaljit Singh briefly outlined how this project was conceptualized way back in 1985 and passed through difficult situations and today finally the dream of 1765 members of the society had been translated into a realty.
Earlier the president of the society Mr. Mohinder Singh Matharoo welcomed the Chief Minister and expressed the gratitude on the behalf of the members of the society for all out help and support extended by him even at the time when he was in the power.
On the occasion both the President Mr. Matharoo and General Secretary of the society Mr. Charanhit Singh Chadha honoured the Chief Minister, Cooperation Minister and Vice Chancellor Punjabi University Patiala Jaspal Singh.
