TARN TARAN, December 24: Responding to the strong demand from the Majha leaders, the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Capt Amarinder Singh today promised action against each and every case of excesses and violence against the Congress workers by the police at the behest of the Akali leadership during last four years.
Addressing a mammoth rally organised by Rana Gurjit Singh and attended by over one lakh people here today, Capt Amarinder Singh said, the countdown for the Akalis had already started and their days were numbered as was proved by the presence of such a massive crowd at the rally.
Earlier Rana Gurjit and Gurchet Singh Bhullar made a strong case for fixing the responsibility for the reign of terror let loose against the Congress workers during the last four years. They said, they can wait for development but will like that each and every excess his duly paid back. “We want 3 FIRs for each false FIR registered against us”, said Mr Bhullar. Rana Gurjit urged the Chief Minister to ensure that the border districts of Punjab get similar concessions as in the North Eastern States.
“Today I promise to you that the violence and terror let loose on you by the police at the behest of the Akali jatehdars will be properly investigated and equally paid back and each police official found guilty will be brought to the book and taught an appropriate lesson”, Capt Amarinder Singh said to a thundering applause from thousands of people listening to him with rapt attention.
The former Chief Minister regretted that this government had wasted four precious years in looting and robbing people besides subjecting the political rivals to excesses and torture in police stations and slapping false cases on them. “They betrayed the trust of people”, he said, while pointing out, instead of working for the welfare of the people they resorted to the loot of the state.
“They have grabbed sand mining, they have grabbed the transport business, they have grabbed the cable network, they have grabbed the liquor business and still they are not satisfied”, the PCC president remarked, while adding, they continue to do so as their thirst for money still remains unquenched no matter how much they have looted and robbed.
Referring to the poor plight of the health and education system in the state, he said, there was no place for the poor to send their children for education or get medical care. “The plight of government schools is so bad that the teachers teaching there send their own wards to the private schools”, he pointed out. Same is the case with the government hospitals.
He promised to bring in such an education system so that the poor students can get good education and compete well for the jobs wherever they go across the country or world outside. He pointed out there are over 44 lakh unemployed youth in the state with no avenues of employment which makes it necessary to make them trained and qualified enough so that they do not have any difficulty in finding the jobs.
Lashing out at the Chief Minister Mr Parkash Singh Badal and his Deputy Chief Minister son Mr Sukhbir Badal, the PCC President said, they had simply vanished away from the scene and stopped thinking about governance. He said, with the result of their misgovernance the industry was leaving Punjab as they were finding it difficult to work here.
Drawing the attention of people to the smooth and hassle free procurement process during his government, Capt Amarinder Singh pointed out, while he ensured that the farmers got their payments within 24 hours, under the Akali-BJP regime their payments were delayed by 15 days. Similarly they did not provide regular power to the farmers for their tube-wells.
Prominent among those present on the occasion included senior party leaders Lal Singh, Sardool Singh, Arind Khanna, Sukhjinder Randhawa, Jeet Mohinder Singh Sidhu, Naresh Kataria, Sukh Sarkaria, Tejinder Bittu, Harminder Gill, Chaudhary Jagjit, Sucha Singh Chhotepur and others.
