CHANDIGARH, March 1: Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee President Capt Amarinder Singh today said the youth had a special role to play in the future of the party. He said, the Congress was the only political party in the country which had assigned special role to a number of young people and the other parties were trying to follow it.
Addressing a joint meeting of the state and district level office bearers of the frontal organisations of the party like the Punjab Youth Congress, the Punjab Pradesh Mahila Congress, the National Students’ Union of India and the Pradesh Congress Seva Dal, PCC President said, all the sections had an important role to play in the near future.
He laid special emphasis on the role of youth. He said, he was happy over the overwhelming response to the youth programmes being organised by the PYC and the NSUI all over the state. He had a special word of praise for them saying they needed to maintain the momentum and mobilise everybody.
Capt Amarinder pointed out, the Akali-BJP government had failed all the sections and the youth in particular were feeling quite disillusioned. He said, there were 44 lakh unemployed youth in the state and special policy was needed to be formulated and implemented to provide them job avenues.
Prominent among those who attended today’s meeting included senior party leaders Mr Lal Singh, Rana Gurmeet Sodhi, Jeet Mohinder Sidhu, Arvind Khanna, OP Soni and others.
The Punjab Mahila Congress President Ms Ratna, the NSUI state president Gobind Khatra and the Punjab Seva Dal President Rajinder Rasnia attended the meeting, Since the PYC President and Anandpur Sahib MP Ravneet Bittu was busy in the parliament session he was represented by Vikram Singh Chaudhary.
In the afternoon Capt Amarinder held a separate meeting with the District Congress Committee presidents also.
Later briefing reporters about today’s meeting Mr Lal Singh said, the meeting had mainly been called to chalk out further course of action of the party. He said, the first phase of the party’s district level rallies will almost be completed this week with party rallies scheduled to be held in Kapurthala, Mansa and Jallandhar on March 3, 5 and 6 respectively.
He said, the party leaders held a threadbare discussion about the next phase of the party programmes in which the PCC President will visit each and every assembly segment.
He disclosed that in this connection a meeting will be held at each district headquarter on March 12 which will be attended by all the leaders and representatives from across the district. The meeting will be monitored by one observer deputed for each district by the PCC.
